Powerful and versatile yet easy to use.
You don’t live in a mansion – yet. Still, that’s no reason for you not to enjoy the same level of home entertainment as a person who does. We’ve designed the Harman Kardon® AVR 1700 audio/video receiver to handle a remarkable number of high-definition sources and to output audio at levels that will blow your mind yet not blow out your windows. Six HDMI® inputs ensure connectivity to all your DVD, HDTV, Blu-ray Disc™ and video-game sources, while built-in AirPlay and DLNA® 1.5 certified connectivity enable you to play almost every file from compatible computers, tablets and mobile devices – with quality that you wouldn’t have thought was possible. To top it all off, a remote control, intuitive menu system and available mobile app make operation and setup easy for a device this advanced. With the power reserve of a 100-watt-per-channel amplifier, this receiver will not only fill your room with crisp, clear Harman Kardon sound but also make you feel as though you are in a recording studio, movie theater or concert hall while your favorite entertainers are at work.
FAQs & How-Tos
-
Yes, on your computer, enter the IP address of the receiver in the internet browser. In the page that opens, it is possible to change the name. Was this helpful? Thank you for your feedback!

For your personal safety and to avoid possible damage to your equipment and speakers, it is always a good practice to turn off and unplug the AVR and ALL source equipment from the AC output before making any audio or video system connections. Was this helpful? Thank you for your feedback!

There are five possible reasons for the receiver shutting down. 1. There is a problem internally with the receiver. 2. There is a problem with one or more of your speakers. 3. There is a problem with one or more of your speaker wires. 4. There is a problem with the speaker wiring done on your system. 5. The unit is overheating. No ventilation. First, check the wiring at every speaker terminal at the back of your receiver and at the back of your speakers. A single strand of speaker wire crossing from one terminal to another would be enough to cause the amp to shut down or go into PROTECT. If you do not find any problems with any of the wiring, you should disconnect all speakers from your receiver. If the receiver continues to go into PROTECT, the problem is in the receiver. Please submit a case on the Contact Us page. They will be able to assist you. However, if it turns on, the problem is elsewhere. Begin reconnecting one speaker at a time. Eventually you will connect a speaker that will cause the receiver to shut down. At this point you have found your culprit. On the other hand, it may just be overheating. You must have at least 2 - 3 inches of space between the top of the unit and any shelf or component above the unit. The unit should not be inside a sealed compartment when being used. The unit must be able to breath. There are very powerful amps in these receivers. If they run too hot, they will shut down. An external fan can help this. Was this helpful? With some Blu-ray discs, you have to go to the Settings Menu of your Blu-ray player and select "Bitstream" or "Bitstream Native". This will carry the DTS HD Master signal to be decoded in the AVR, and the AVR front panel should show the correct text. Was this helpful? Thank you for your feedback!

Try another HDMI cable, and make sure that it is a high-speed version. This solution usually solves the problem, which is caused by insufficient cable bandwith. Was this helpful? Thank you for your feedback!

All AVR models up to and including 151S, 161S and 171S feature HDCP version 1.4. (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection). This is also true for BDS 280, 580, 280S and 580S. It is not possible to update to version 2.2 with any software/firmware update, as this requires a hardware change. Future models may feature version 2.2, made for UHD/4k content. Was this helpful?
